This is our signature LAKE MONTH Event! The Lake Stewards research and project teams will welcome our various environmental partners and friends to give hands’ on demonstrations of interesting research or important science about our beautiful lake. This will be a family friendly event!

About the event
THE FOLLOWING GROUPS WILL WELCOME YOU AT LAKE DISCOVERY DAY!
- Scugog Lake Stewards, We will discuss the Lake Scugog Enhancement Project, natural shorelines showing an abundance of native flowers and grasses for lake edges, life in lake water through a microscope, fish recognition test for children.
- Kawartha Conservation, will discuss aquatic plant and algae identification and discussion, shoreline naturalization and erosion control, TV videos showing development around the lake from early 70’s and other important Lake Scugog videos, water quality work and microscope work.
- Trent University, will discuss results of their recent microplastics research in the waters of Lake Scugog with examples to help everyone understand sources and what it looks like.
- Ontario Tech. University Will discuss their 2023 research study on Lake plant management methods and shoreline water health study.
- Dogwood Forest Nature School, Will have demonstrations on how pollutants enter the water plus other visuals and things for children.
- Invading Species Outreach Program and OFAH, Will bring their Clean, Drain, Dry shoreline boat wash trailer and information to discuss the problem of invasive species in Ontario waterways.
- Kuntz Forestry Consulting Inc. will discuss important tree information, give away of tree seedlings and tree care information
- Noted algae specialist, Colleen Dempster will discuss reasons for algae blooms of all types, their recognition and their prevention.
- Scugog Lake Stewards, Children’s Rock Painting table
- North Durham Nature: Information about their wide range of programs and nature opportunities
- North Durham Nature President, James Kamstra will lead a 2 hour hike north of the boat launch, talking about the importance of wetlands and species diversity. Meet at the Latcham Centre, NDN area.
- Chamber of Commerce, Lake oriented scavenger hunt finishing up at Old Flame Brewery for entertainment, prizes, food and fun. You must sign up in advance through the Chamber.
